Driver hurt in I-395 crash in Norwich

Norwich — A tractor-trailer driver from Florida was injured Monday morning when his truck went down an embankment along the Exit 13B off ramp of Interstate 395.

State police said Timur Bahronovich Umarov, 25, of Orlando, Fla., was attempting to exit the northbound lanes of the highway when he drove off the left side of the road and down the embankment. Police said the tractor-trailer then struck several trees, breaching the box container attached to the truck.

Police said Umarov was trapped in the truck and had to be extricated by members of the Yantic and East Great Plain fire departments. Umarov was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The off-ramp was closed for several hours to allow for removal of the tractor-trailer.
