Norwich man arrested in connection with attempted armed robbery
Norwich — Police on Tuesday night arrested a city man who they say attempted to steal a cellphone at knifepoint.
Rayshawn Ruley, 19, of 87 Franklin St. was charged with first-degree robbery, interfering with police, attempt to sell narcotics and unauthorized sale of narcotics.
Police said at around 10:10 p.m. Ruley approached the victim and asked to borrow his cellphone to make a phone call. The victim let Ruley use his phone, but Ruley refused to return it after making several calls.
Police said the victim and Ruley were engaged in a brief struggle when Ruley pulled out a knife. The victim was able to run away uninjured.
Police were able locate Ruley shortly after the incident.
He was being held on a $100,000 bond, pending his arraignment Wednesday in Norwich Superior Court.
