Waterford — A backyard campfire sparked a fire that burned about 300 square feet of brush in Waterford Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday and extinguished it in about 90 minutes, according to Quaker Hill Fire Chief Matthew Carson.

Wind blew sparks from the campfire into the hills behind 40 Scotch Cap Road, causing the blaze, Carson said.

Firefighters from the Quaker Hill, Cohanzie, Oswegatchie and Jordan fire companies responded.
