Task force arrests Norwich man on heroin, crack charges
Norwich — An investigation into heroin sales in southeastern Connecticut by the Regional Community Enhancement Task Force led to the arrest of a Norwich man this week on multiple drug-related charges.
The task force, formed to battle the recent rash of heroin overdoses, arrested Dennis Gonzalez, 25, of 18 Hunters Ave., No. 3, in the Taftville section of the city.
Gonzalez was charged on Tuesday with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to sell, possession of crack cocaine, possession of crack cocaine with intent to sell and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said in a statement that Gonzalez was found in possession of 50 glassine bags of heroin, two additional bags of heroin and three bags of crack cocaine.
He was placed under arrest after an extensive investigation into the sale of heroin in southeastern Connecticut.
The task force is comprised of investigators and officers from Groton Town, Groton City, Waterford, Stonington, Norwich, Ledyard and New London, along with representatives from East Lyme, Montville, Mashantucket Pequot, Adult Probation, Parole and the Connecticut State Police.
Representatives from the Division of Criminal Justice and New London Police Department also are involved.
