New London man charged with sexual assault

Norwich — An 18-year-old New London man faces sexual assault and related charges after he allegedly attacked his 17-year-old former girlfriend after school on Feb. 1 in Norwich, Norwich police said.

Jonathan L. Morrison, of 45 Redden Ave., New London, was charged Wednesday with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree unlawful restraint, breach of peace, third-degree assault and second-degree harassment.

He was held on a $250,000 bond and was arraigned Wednesday in Norwich Superior Court. His case was continued to March 2.

Police said the female victim and her mother reported the incident on Feb. 3, telling officer Carl Bourne that she had broken up with Morrison in December after she learned of previous domestic violence incidents.

She told police Morrison continued to contact her by text messages and private Twitter messages saying he wanted to meet her. She told police she told him she did not want to see him.

As she was walking home from school, Morrison allegedly intercepted her in a parking lot, grabbed her arm, accused her of having sex with other men and allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Morrison told police on Feb. 5 that he believed the victim was “flirting with him” at times during the argument, but also told police the victim told him “no” to his sexual contact.
