Norwich police respond to two heroin overdoses Saturday

Norwich — Police investigated two reports of heroin overdoses Saturday, one of which resulted in a fatality.

At about 7:27 a.m., police responded to an unresponsive 18-year-old male who later was pronounced dead. Investigating officers were able to determine that the deceased recently had been using heroin that was laced with fentanyl.

Later, at about 4:20 p.m., police responded to a heroin overdose by a 21-year-old female. She was transported to The William W. Backus Hospital, where she was treated and is expected to survive.

In both incidents, the subjects used heroin from white glassine bags bearing a red “ladybug” stamp, police said. Heroin from those bags tested positive for the substance fentanyl.
