Former Norwich alderman injured in Milford crash

Former Norwich Alderman Terell Wilson suffered serious injuries when the vehicle he was driving was struck head-on by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 95 in Milford early Saturday morning, state police in Bridgeport said.

According to the police press release, Wilson, 24, was northbound in the left lane on I-95 just south of Exit 36 when the Chrysler 300 he was driving was struck head-on by an Audi driven by Shivam Patel of West Haven traveling the wrong direction. The crash occurred at 2:17 a.m. and is under investigation by state police at Troop G.

Both drivers suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from their vehicles, according to news reports. Both were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital. Wilson's condition was not available Monday.

Wilson, a 2010 Norwich Free Academy graduate, served one term on the Norwich City Council from 2013 to 2015. He also was a longtime active member of the Norwich branch of the NAACP and served as president of the NAACP state Youth and College Council for five years.
