New London — Two people were taken to the hospital Thursday for evaluation of injuries sustained in a two-car collision on Williams Street.

Fire and police personnel responded to Williams Street, near the intersection of Sunset Road, at 2:46 p.m. where an Audi had collided with a Hyundai.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting tools to remove one door and pry open another to free the two occupants of the Hyundai, according to Battalion Chief Keith Nichols. Both were taken by Waterford ambulances to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The driver of the Audi appeared to be uninjured.

Each vehicle sustained damage to the front driver’s side. Police are investigating the cause of the crash. A section of Williams Street was closed to traffic for about 40 minutes.
