Stonington — Route 2, near the on- and off-ramps for Interstate 95, was briefly closed after a tractor-trailer partial rollover accident that occurred at 9:42 a.m.

It reopened about 1:45 p.m. Friday.

According to Stonington police Capt. Todd Olson, the tractor-trailer was coming off of I-95 north at Exit 92 and attempting to turn right onto Route 2 when the accident occurred.

Olson said the truck's flatbed then buckled under the weight of its load — a 39,000-pound coil of steel — and flipped over, leaving the cab upright but stopping the tractor-trailer in its tracks.

He said an excavating company assisted in picking up the steel coil and placing it onto a different flatbed.

No injuries and only a minor fluid spill resulted from the accident, Olson said.
