East Lyme — Town police and the East Lyme resident state trooper announced Tuesday that they will conduct spot checks on June 4 and 5 to identify and arrest drivers operating vehicles while impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Police said additional staff will be on duty conducting enforcement checks at various locations throughout town.

They will be looking for motor vehicle and equipment violations with an emphasis on those involving driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police said.

Drivers and passengers are urged to designate a sober driver and always wear a seat belt.
