Firefighters again called out to vacant Salem bird farm

Salem — Investigations are continuing after two fires were reported in the area of Bordeau's Pheasant Farm, the most recent of several such incidents there in the past few months.

Officials were called out to the vacant farm at 343 Old Colchester Road Wednesday morning and again Wednesday evening.

Information about what was on fire Wednesday evening was not immediately available.

Fire tankers and police cruisers remained on the scene about 8:45 p.m., and traffic was being directed through the area.

Earlier Wednesday, fire crews, state police troopers and state police detectives had responded to the former farm about 11:16 a.m.

The farm was formerly home to thousands of pheasants, quail and partridges, but closed after the death of owner Donald Bourdeau Sr. in September and his wife, Anne, in February.

Anne Bourdeau in her will had left the farm to her son, Donald Bourdeau Jr., but as of Wednesday the case was making its way through probate court.

Fires also were reported at the farm on Aug. 24 and Aug. 30. No injuries have been reported.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call Detective Fratellenico at (860) 465-5456, the confidential crime tip hotline at (860) 465-5469, or text TIP711 and the information to 274637.

All calls will be kept confidential.
