Groton City police were called at 11:50 p.m. on Saturday to Kamaha Street for a report of an injured woman covered in blood, the affidavit said. Police found the victim, 52, who had swelling and bruising around her right eye, and dried blood on both of her cheeks and upper mouth, as well as on her shirt, police said.

The woman, who previously had been treated for a traumatic brain injury, was brought to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and found to have blood spots in her eyes consistent with strangulation, and bleeding in the brain, the affidavit said. She was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The woman said she had been punched and strangled after an argument but did not remember if she was hit by an object, the affidavit said.
