New London — Police arrested a man who allegedly shot a firearm on Eastern Avenue earlier Monday when he showed up to the station Monday night to bail out his friend, according to police.

Police said they responded to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of 55 Eastern Ave. at 8:55 p.m.

Police said officers learned upon arrival that a green Ford Aerostar van was associated with the shooting and that all who were involved appeared to know one another.

According to police, officers found the van a short time later traveling on Tilley Street, at which point it pulled over to the side of the road. At that point, police said a man jumped out of it and began approaching them.

Police said they were able to apprehend the man, who they said was in possession of a stun gun-type electronic defense weapon, but the van drove away.

Jonathan Felix, 21, of 44 Linden St. was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of marijuana.

Officers found the van in the Holiday Inn parking lot later Monday, police said, although they didn't specify when.

About 35 minutes after that, police said the man they had identified as the alleged shooter showed up to the station in an attempt to bond Felix out.

Police promptly took him into custody.

Aaron Baldwin, 20, of 32 Henry St. was charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangerment.

Baldwin, held on a $100,000 bond, and Felix, held on a $50,000 bond, were scheduled to be arraigned in New London Superior Court on Tuesday.

Police said they’ve seized the van and its contents as part of their investigation, which is ongoing and involves their detective bureau as well as the State’s Attorney’s Office.
