    No charges in Waterford crash that killed 24-year-old; investigation ongoing

    Waterford — Police still are investigating Monday’s three-car crash that killed a Waterford High School graduate and injured her mother, a Clark Lane Middle School teacher.

    The teacher, Olivia Turowski, was listed in fair condition Thursday at Yale New Haven Hospital. Stephanie Turowski, her daughter, died as a result of the result of the injuries sustained in the crash.

    Another passenger in the car with the Turowskis, Lauren Welp, was taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London and was listed in stable condition Tuesday. Welp's condition was not available Thursday night.

    Information on the driver of another car in the crash, Brianne Colanna, 27, of Bethel, also was not available. She initially was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, but no longer is listed as a patient there. The driver of a third car, Arthur Spence, 27, of New London, was not taken to the hospital after the accident.

    Police said no one has been charged in the crash, which happened at about 1:30 p.m. on Route 1 near the intersection with Fog Plain Road.

    “We are still collecting evidence and locating witnesses,” Waterford police Lt. Timothy Silva said Thursday.
