    New London police investigate stabbing on Bank Street

    New London — Police are investigating after a person was stabbed in the lower back Friday night after intervening in a fight.

    According to police, the stabbing occurred when two groups of people began arguing about 11:41 p.m. at the Dockside Bar, 36 Bank St., and moved outside into a nearby alleyway. When the altercation turned physical, the victim tried to stop it and was stabbed in the lower back. The two groups fled the area.

    New London Police and fire departments arrived on the scene, and the victim was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for additional treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening, and later was released.

    Police said that all the participants in the altercation knew one another. Several witnesses were interviewed and evidence was collected at the scene.
