Norwich man charged in connection to 2016 robbery, assault

Norwich — Police on Thursday arrested another person linked to a 2016 beating at a Norwich gas station that left the victim with a traumatic brain injury and collapsed lung.

Kwendelle Wiggins, 26, of 282 Central Ave. was arrested Thursday evening at his home by police on three warrants — one of which contains felony assault and robbery charges linked to the May 18 assault at the Ravi Mart on Central Avenue. His charges include two counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of first-degree assault and breach of peace. Information on the second alleged robbery was not immediately available.

Wiggins attempted to toss “a large amount of heroin” out of a window of his residence during his arrest Thursday, police said. He also was charged with possession of heroin as a result.

Wellington C. Griffin, 36, of 252 Prospect St., Norwich, was arraigned Oct. 18 in Superior Court on charges of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery and second-degree breach of peace in connection with the May 18th assault.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit written by Detective Kevin J. Wilbur, police who were dispatched to the gas station at 10:40 p.m. on May 18 for a man on the ground found the victim, who is not identified in the warrant, lying face down next to a gas pump with multiple facial lacerations and swelling of the head.

No further information was available late Thursday.
