2 New London women charged with heroin possession in East Lyme

East Lyme — Police on Thursday arrested two women who allegedly had heroin and drug paraphernalia in a parking lot on Liberty Way.

Marcia Sapere, 33, of New London was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Alicia Sapere, 32, of New London was charged with possession of narcotics.

According to police, officers responded to the parking lot about 4:15 p.m. after a resident reported drug activity there.

Police said the Saperes began hiding items upon their arrival, but after a brief investigation, officers located an unspecified amount of heroin as well as drug paraphernalia.

Both women were released on $5,000 nonsurety bonds and are scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on May 4.

Police, who thanked the resident who alerted them Thursday, urged all residents who observe suspicious activity to report it in a timely manner.
