Ledyard — A Gales Ferry man is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly led police on a Thursday evening chase in which officers said his vehicle collided with two vehicles and later was hit by two Ledyard police cruisers.

Jordan X. Lacey, 21, of 1974 Route 12, Gales Ferry, was charged with driving at an unreasonable speed, engaging an officer in pursuit, two counts of evading responsibility, reckless driving, first-degree reckless endangerment, fifth-degree larceny, stealing a firearm, possession of a pistol without a permit, having weapons in a vehicle and possession of a high-capacity pistol magazine.

Police said the pursuit began when an officer clocked the operator of a 2005 Audi driving at a speed above the posted 30 mph limit on Shewville Road.

Police said the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver did not oblige. Instead, police said, the driver sped away, striking two vehicles on Shewville Road as he fled.

Police said the operator then turned right and sped down state Route 214 toward the center of Ledyard before turning right onto Spicer Hill Road.

As he approached Saw Mill Road, police said the driver threw a loaded 9mm pistol out the driver’s side window. A passer-by later discovered the pistol in the roadway.

The driver next turned left onto state Route 117, police said. Police continued to follow as he turned right onto Route 214 toward Route 12 and Gales Ferry.

According to police, the operator suddenly braked in traffic, at which point a Ledyard police cruiser collided with the back end of the Audi, causing it to spin. When the Audi came to a stop, it was facing east, toward Ledyard center.

That’s when another Ledyard cruiser, without time to react, accidentally struck the Audi head on, police said. The impact disabled both cars, but no police officers were hurt and neither were the four occupants of the Audi.

Police said they surrounded the Audi and took Lacey into custody without incident.

Lacey, held on a $250,000 bond, was scheduled to appear in New London Superior Court on Friday.
