    New London City Council set to vote on budget Wednesday

    New London — The City Council will hold a special meeting Wednesday night for a final vote on the fiscal year 2017-18 budget.

    The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at City Hall.

    The proposed plan as it stands now is a combined $90.05 million and contains $41.7 million in education spending and $48.3 million for general government. The general government budget is a 5.22 percent increase in spending and the education budget is a 1.71 percent decrease over last year’s request. The tax rate would increase by more than 9 percent under the proposal.

    The mill rate would increase from 40.46 to 44.26 under the proposal and the first tax bill will be due by July 1.
