East Lyme police search for driver who left scene of 'disturbance'

East Lyme — Police are investigating after a person likely involved in a disturbance in Niantic left the scene and evaded officers’ attempts to stop the vehicle he or she was driving.

According to Chief Michael Finkelstein, police were called to Grand Street for an unspecified “disturbance” about 9:15 p.m. Monday. As officers were responding, Finkelstein said, dispatchers learned a suspect in the disturbance had driven away from the scene.

Finkelstein said officers attempted to locate and stop the corresponding vehicle, but weren’t successful. He said other departments were alerted to the description of the vehicle, but he doesn’t believe any of them encountered it.

Finkelstein didn't describe the path the vehicle took or say how many people were in the vehicle. He said the investigation remains active and police will release further information after they make an arrest.
