2 crashes snarl traffic on I-95 south in New London

New London — Officials closed two lanes of Interstate 95 south Thursday morning after the backup from one crash caused another between exits 83 and 82.

The state Department of Transportation said the first crash happened about 8:45 a.m. and involved a box truck.

According to New London police, that crash originated in the city. The vehicle's driver was traveling on North Frontage Road when he drove through the fence separating it from I-95 and ended up on the highway. Police said the driver injured his arm in the crash. They weren't sure how severe the injury was.

The next wreck was reported around 9 a.m. and also involved one vehicle. State police handled that incident.

The right and center lanes were closed because of the crashes but reopened by 9:40 a.m.
