Ledyard — Police on Monday morning arrested a man they said was so intoxicated he fell asleep while driving on state Route 214.

Police said they were called to Route 214 near Goulart Road at 12:01 a.m. for the report of a vehicle stopped in the eastbound travel lane. Officers found a man asleep in the driver’s seat of his green Buick Century, which was in “drive.”

Police said officers entered the vehicle through a back window to put it in “park.” Their subsequent investigation revealed the driver was intoxicated, police said.

Matthew L. Goodrich, 41, of 17 Huntington Way, Ledyard, was charged with driving an unregistered vehicle and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

LeBlanc’s Auto towing service removed his vehicle from the scene.

Released on a $1,000 nonsurety bond, Goodrich is due in New London Superior Court Sept. 28.
