Emergency crews help New London man trapped under treadmill

New London — Emergency personnel on Wednesday responded to a private city residence after an elderly man ended up trapped underneath a treadmill.

According to fire officials, a 75-year-old at the 31 Sander St. home grabbed the handle of the treadmill about 6:30 p.m. because he felt like he was passing out. The treadmill toppled onto him as he fell, officials said.

Crews quickly responded to lift the machine off the man. They took him to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital because of the issues he was having with retaining consciousness. Officials said he didn’t appear to have been injured by the falling treadmill.
