Police: Victim of fatal Westerly stabbing was East Lyme resident

Westerly — The man who died after a Saturday night stabbing here was a resident of East Lyme, according to police.

Police said the stabbing, which took place at 65 Bowling Lane, resulted in the death of 50-year-old Jeremy Lehmann of Niantic.

According to police, officers responded to the Bowling Lane apartment about 11 p.m. Saturday and found Lehmann with multiple apparent stab wounds. Crews took him to Westerly Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.

Police have since charged the resident of the home, 50-year-old Nelson Dearce, with first-degree murder.

In a news release, police said Lehmann was visiting the Bowling Lane apartment when Dearce came home from work and confronted Lehmann. Dearce then allegedly began attacking Lehmann with a knife.

Police said they located Dearce outside his apartment Saturday night and arrested him without incident.

Records show Dearce was arraigned in 4th Division District Court on Monday. A bail hearing is scheduled for Feb. 7.
