Wolcott, Conn. — A Connecticut woman is facing charges after police say they seized more than 50 cats living in "deplorable" conditions from her home last month. 

Cheryl McMurray, of Wolcott, turned herself in Thursday after police charged her with 59 counts of animal cruelty.

Animal control officers say they started receiving complaints from neighbors about the condition of the home in September. Police say an October search of 53-year-old McMurray's Wolcott residence found 59 cats living among feces and urine. Another was allegedly found dead in the freezer.

Police say the cats were suffering from various ailments and had to be taken to local veterinarians to be checked.

She is due for arraignment Nov. 30. It wasn't immediately clear if she has an attorney.
