SOUTHBURY, Conn. (AP) — Oxford's animal control officer has turned herself in to Connecticut State Police on a warrant accusing her of stealing two pure-bred dogs from a resident in the town.

Forty-four-year-old Cori Wlasuk surrendered Monday at the Troop A barracks in Southbury and will be arraigned May 5 on two counts of larceny and five counts of forgery.

State police say First Selectman George Temple notified them in December that a resident had complained that Wlasuk stole two Newfoundland puppies from her in 2011 and 2014.

Investigators say in both cases the dogs were turned over to the Oxford animal shelter, but Wlasuk took them home without impounding them. They say she also forged state documents to receive free veterinary care for the animals.

Wlasuk couldn't be reached for comment.
