HARTFORD (AP) — A Connecticut man has been sentenced to prison for receiving $1.5 million in bribes while he was the executive director of a local housing authority.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daily says 56-year-old Michael Siwek, of North Haven, was sentenced Friday to four years behind bars followed by three years of probation.

Siwek pleaded guilty in September 2014 to conspiracy to commit bribery in connection with a program receiving federal funds and related crimes.

Prosecutors say Siwek received approximately $1.5 million from February 2007 through February 2012 from individuals in exchange for the awarding of business and contracts with the West Haven Housing Authority and entities the housing authority controlled.

Siwek didn't report these payments to the IRS and filed false tax returns that underreported his income and tax liability.
