Five overdoses reversed in West Haven in about two hours

First responders were able to reverse five suspected opioid overdoses early Monday, police said.

Officers and firefighters were called to 293 Elm St. just after midnight for three unconscious people, police said. Two were in a car, and the third was in the Dunkin' Donuts.

Paramedics administered naloxone, a drug that counteracts potentially deadly opioid overdoses, and were able to revive the three, police said.

They told police that they believed they had taken Xanax, a benzodiazepine, at a house party. Paramedics took the three to the hospital for evaluation.

About two hours later, police responded to a crash on Brown Street. Inside the vehicle, police said they found two unconscious people.

Paramedics used naloxone again and revived the pair, police said. They told officers they had bought heroin in New Haven.

Police said detectives are investigating the overdoses.
