FAA investigating small plane crash in Rhode island

HOPKINTON, R.I. (AP) — The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of a small plane crash in the Rhode Island town of Hopkinton.

The Westerly Sun reports the crash occurred in a wooded area and was reported by the pilot around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. Crews cleared the scene within 20 minutes.

Officials say the crash was likely the result of an engine dropping in mid-flight. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing in a field area, but overshot his target and ended up in a tree line.

The unidentified pilot wasn't injured. The plane is expected to be removed over the next couple of days.
