UConn men accept an invite back to Maui in 2016

UConn has some fond memories of playing in the Maui Invitational.

The Hawaii-based touranament served as a launching pad for the 2010-11 national championship season. The Huskies won Maui titles in 2005 and 2010.

They'll be heading back there in 2016, joining a deep field that includes Georgetown, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, Wisconsin, Oregon, Tennessee and host Chaminade. The Lahaina Civic Center will host the event from Nov. 21-23.

It will be UConn's fourth trip to the Maui Invitational. The Huskies own an 8-1 record in the tournament.

In their last appearance in 2010, they knocked off Wichita State, No. 2 Michigan State and No. 8 Kentucky. It was a sign of good things to come, as UConn continued its surprising run and eventually beat Butler for the national championship in April 2011.

The 2016 field also will feature some college basketball heavyweights. The eight-team field has captured a combined 14 national titles, made 35 Final Four trips and won 160 conference championships.

    Boatright, Hamilton honored

    • UConn swept the American Athletic Conference's top weekly individual honors.

Senior Ryan Boatright earned his first conference player of the week award after averaging 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in three games at the Puerto Rico Tip-Off in San Juan. He made the all-tournament team.

The Huskies beat College of Charleston (65-57) and Dayton (75-64) last week before losing to West Virginia (78-68) in the championship game on Sunday.

Boatright ranks first in scoring in the conference with a 20 points per game average.

Hamilton, a 6-foot-7 swingman, was named the conference's top rookie. He averaged 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds and converted 59.3 percent (16-for-27) from the field, 66.7 percent (8-for-12) from 3-point territory in three games.
