    The French (musical) connection

The Coast Guard Band Chamber Players are going on the road — although not too far, as they present concerts of French music at the Noank Baptist Church this Sunday and at the Park Congregational Church in Norwich next Saturday.

The group will perform Émile Bernard's "Divertissment Op. 36," the 3rd movement of Ándre Caplet's "Suite Persane," and Jean Francaix's "Le Gai Paris" and "Nine Pieces Caracteristiques."

The chamber players will be led by Chief Musician Christopher Howard and Musician 1st Class Robert Langslet, both of whom are taking part in the Coast Guard Band's Conducting and Leadership Program under the guidance of Lauren Reynolds. Reynolds is director of bands at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, and she will be at these two concerts as well.

The Coast Guard Band Chamber Players, 2 p.m. Sunday, Noank Baptist Church, 18 Cathedral Heights, Groton; and 2 p.m. Saturday Feb. 6, Park Congregational Church, 283 Broadway, Norwich; free; (860) 701-6826.
