Broadway Kids & Company, a southeastern Connecticut school of performing arts based in Niantic, will perform "Hairspray" Aug. 5 and 6 at Mitchell College's Clarke Center in New London. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. both days for a buffet-style dinner provided by Filomena's restaurant of Waterford before the 7 p.m. show. There is also an Aug. 6 matinee at 2 p.m. that does not include a meal.

Broadway Kids & Company welcomed Marissa Perry, a Waterbury native who played Tracy Turnblad in "Hairspray" on Broadway, to the studio earlier this month. She conducted a workshop for cast members and taught them some of the original Broadway choreography. After the workshop, Perry and the Broadway Kids cast discussed the civil rights themes of the show and analyzed each character and how he or she figured in the struggle.
