    Foxwoods welcomes Tom Jones

Based on his "What's New, Pussycat?"/Sultan of the Swiveling Hips persona of yore, Tom Jones isn't the first person you'd expect to still be making interesting music at age 76.

But here he is, creating a trilogy of well-received CDs under the auspices of producer Ethan Johns, who has worked with Kings of Leon and Ryan Adams. The music leans toward a rootsy/bluesy sound, and, on 2015's "Long Lost Suitcase," Jones turns his still-formidable voice on songs like Hank Williams' "Why Don't You Love Me Like You Used to Do?" and Willie Nelson's "Opportunity to Cry."

And the lion in winter can still give a heck of a concert, as he no doubt will when he performs Saturday at Foxwoods.

Here's a random Jones factoid that American audiences might not know: Jones had been a judge on the British version of "The Voice." His artist, Leanne Mitchell, won the show's initial 2012 season. Last year, though, Jones was ousted as a "Voice" mentor — and replaced with Boy George.
