NO ICE, Marvelous Liars and Spectral Fangs share music bill

    No Ice (Contributed)

As far as album titles go, "Come on Feel the NO ICE" by the Brooklyn rock band NO ICE is pretty funny. It's a pun, obviously, on the classic Slade single, "Cum on Feel the Noize" (and later covered with massive success by Quiet Riot). For some reason, though, NO ICE decided to opt for correctly spelled words. Perhaps their own all-caps conceit provided sufficient grammatical shenanigans.

Going forward, if they wish to sustain this motif, perhaps the band will consider future album titles such as "NO ICE Ice Baby" or "Hvis lyset tar NO ICE" (the latter clearly a take-off of Burzum's immortal black metal album "Hvis lyset tar oss") — or, even though it isn't a pun and because they would be great anyway — "It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold NO ICE Back."

In any event, on tunes like "Cemetery" and "Leave Her Alone," NO ICE demonstrate a penchant for a gritty sort of power pop that sounds fine on record and probably kicks some butt live. The band headlines Saturday in New London's 33 Golden Street with solid support from Marvelous Liars and Spectral Fangs.

    NO ICE, 9 p.m. Saturday, 33 Golden Street, 33 Golden St., New London; $5; (860) 443-1193.
