East Lyme Puppetry Project hosts "Intergalatic Circus"

Dan Butterworth Marionettes’ “Intergalactic Circus” comes to East Lyme for a Friday performance as part of the East Lyme Puppetry Project.

The show offers a “look at the golden age of carnival and circus where large intricately carved marionettes and shadow puppets dance and whirl from the stage, through the air, and right out into the audience …”

“Intergalactic Circus” is a family-friendly show, and it includes a demonstration of puppetry and a question-and-answer period.

Butterworth’s work has ranged from helping to create an Inuit show in Nunavut, Canada, to designing sets for the 2008 St. Petersburg, Florida, production of the opera “Die Fledermaus.” He won the Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts in 2005.

“Intergalactic Circus,” 1 p.m. Friday, East Lyme Community Center, 41 Society Road, Niantic; tickets $5, sold at the door; eastlymepuppetry@gmail.com.
