One of the fascinating things about jazz are how its compositions can work in so many ways. Consider the Peter Walker/James Hunter Duo, guesting Thursday for The Day's "Live Lunch Break" concert series.

Pianist Walker and bassist Hunter are versatile, seasoned veterans who, together and separately, have explored and nuanced the jazz standards songbook for a variety of area luminaries over the years. Of late, they've been performing regularly in PB+J with Dick Jordan at the Steak Loft in Mystic.

In the duo format, Walker's fluid melodies are anchored by Hunter's solid pocket and contrapuntal exclamations. It should be a stirring recitation of favorites.
