    Coast Guard Band perform Gershwin, Bernstein and more

    The U.S. Coast Guard Band will present “Riffs for Lenny, Aaron, and George” at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 in Leamy Concert Hall.

    Lieutenant Commander Adam Williamson will lead the concert of music by Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, and others. The afternoon’s soloists are clarinetist Chief Musician Christopher Howard and soprano Musician 1st Class Megan Weikleenget.

    The concert will open with Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” followed by Bernstein’s Three Dances from “On the Town.” Howard will perform Frank Ticheli’s “Concerto for Clarinet and Wind Ensemble.” Weikleenget will deliver three works: Laurie’s Song from Copland’s “Tender Land,” “Simple Song” by Bernstein, and “George by Fred” by Gershwin. The program will conclude with Gershwin’s optimistic show piece “An American in Paris.”

    This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. Leamy Concert Hall is on the Coast Guard Academy campus, located at 15 Mohegan Ave., New London.
