Duo Fortin explore musical melancholia Saturday at La Grua

    Duo Fortin (Submitted)

"Four-hands" piano concerts are pretty open in terms of possibility. You could combine two disparate comets — Art Tatum and Jerry Lee Lewis, for example — and tell them to burn the joint down like General Sherman high-stepping like a fiend to the sea.

On the other hand, that sounds like the theme song to a migraine.

Instead, what about a selection of material designed to provide exquisite and aching beauty for your tired brain and ears? That's what will happen Saturday when Duo Fortin — Amélie Fortin and Marie-Christine Poirier — presents "Mémoires," a program of sweetly melancholic chamber soundscapes by such artists as Grieg, Barber, Piazzolla, Marcoux, Rachmaninoff and Bolcom.

To help guests enjoy every bit of the 10-fingered action, the La Grua will feature overhead screens as the artists play.

And who knows? Maybe Duo Fortin encores with "Great Balls of Fire" and "Tiger Rag."

"Mémoires," Duo Fortin, 6 p.m. Saturday, La Grua Center, 32 Water St., Stonington; $10, free 18 and under; (860) 535-2300.
