John Edward Urbanski and Marcella Sophia (Podvarney) of Norwich, celebrated their emerald wedding anniversary on Jan. 8, 2010. Married in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1955, they relocated to Oakdale in 1962.

John retired from Pfizer in 1993, after 30 years of service.

John and Marcella commemorated the occasion at a surprise dinner party with their children, daughter Bonnie Urbanski of Hoboken, N.J., son Frank and wife, Karen, of Hamburg, N.J.; granddaughter Beth of Norwich, son Joseph and Anita Coughlin, grandchildren Laura and John of Plantsville, Conn., and daughter Mary Vose and Tom Metcalf of North Stonington, and granddaughter Natasha of Manchester, N.H.

In 2005, "Poppi John" celebrated their golden 50th by taking his children and grandchildren on a Christmas week cruise.
