To the Editor:East Lyme High School has approximately 310 kids anticipating graduation on June 18. As our East Lyme Public Schools home page mission statement reads: "The mission of the East Lyme Public Schools is to be an educational partner in a community effort to enable each student to learn the information and skills necessary to be a productive member of our rapidly changing global society."

For us, in this community, as we turn and reflect, we see that time has flown by. Suddenly, grown is my kid, your kid, and by default now-our kids. Most have been friends since those early days at Lillie B. Haynes, Flanders, and Niantic Center, perhaps even shared daycare providers. This community hosts parents who have shared and supported them and each other while raising this group of children, all of us with common goals: to keep our kids safe and to keep them happy, healthy, and point them toward success.

This committee includes parents of seniors who have donated their time and effort to ensure the party is a success for our graduating seniors.

The committee has multiple fundraisers scheduled, as well as ongoing activities. Please unite and join us as we work to offset the cost of the Class of 2010 All Night Drug- & Alcohol-Free Graduation Party following graduation on June 18. There is no divide between athletics and academics-let us consider ourselves all East Lyme Vikings!

Meet groups of our high school seniors and offer them words of wisdom. This continues every third Sunday of the month until May from 8 a.m to noon.

March 5: The annual hypnotist show has been combined with a coffee and dessert as we watch our students perform, followed by comedian and hypnotist Jim Spinnato. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.

East Lyme, like other communities, has recognized the importance of green initiatives by partnering with Eco-Phones. We now are offering local drop-offs to properly dispose of old electronics so they may be recycled. Also please donate your redeemable recyclables at one of the multiple locations throughout East Lyme, Salem, and Niantic.
