Showalter hit and run remains unsolved case

The article titled "Back to basics: Solving state's cold cases isn't just about DNA," published July 24, included a list of cold-case files about crimes in the local area.

One of the most famous cold cases in New London, which is conspicuous by its absence, is the Kevin Showalter case.

This young Mitchell College student was killed on Pequot Avenue while changing a tire. The accident was a hit and run, which occurred at 11:12 p.m. on Christmas Eve in 1973.

Why is this case not on the list? Does The Day feel that this is a closed case? I do not remember it ever being solved, nor did Kevin's mother, Lucille, who passed away without ever knowing who her son's killer was.
