Do you have a yen to write about the people and places you hold dear? Would you like to set down the threads of passion, sorrow, love and longing that make up your journey? Here’s a way to jump-start the process. Come for lunch and listen to Lynn Haney give you the lowdown on How to Write an Irresistible Memoir.

Witty and wise, Haney will show you how to use the storyteller’s art and the techniques of narrative to capture your vignettes and life events in a vital and engaging way. If you have notes or a draft of a memoir -- or even ideas of a project you’d like to undertake -- bring it along. After the talk, Haney will meet with you and suggest ways to handle your unique story.

The Bee and Thistle Inn, located in Old Lyme, Ct, is an elegant country inn featuring fine dining, an in-house spa -- and a smorgasbord of special events -- such as the upcoming memoir program. The Inn is top rated by Connecticut Magazine and other publications. It’s been voted: “Best Overall” - Statewide, “Most Romantic” - Statewide, and “Best Service” - Statewide.

Lynn Haney is the author of a dozen books. Her works include: The Lady is a Jock; (profiles of pioneering women jockeys), Naked at the Feast; the first major biography of Josephine Baker (optioned by Diana Ross), and A Charmed Life; a biography of Gregory Peck (chosen as a Today’s Best Nonfiction Condensed Book by Reader’s Digest.). Before writing fulltime, Haney worked for Christian Dior-Paris, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Times and CBS-TV News. Currently, she is writing a memoir titled Sneaking into the Movies. In addition to penning her own books, Haney conducts workshops and coaches writing on a one-to-one basis. Her students include novelists, screenwriters, entrepreneurs, students and seniors. She is also a professional speaker and host of Creative People on GCTV.

“I like to share the pleasure I take in practicing my craft,” says Haney. “There’s a great deal of satisfaction that comes with encouraging a person to dig deep and write honestly about something they care about -- such as an unforgettable love affair, a tragic accident, or even a quirky hobby. Everything is material. A memorable afternoon can form the basis of an essay, a short story or a screenplay.”
