The National Peace Corps Association, in partnership with Oxfam America, has organized a series of global house parties to take place on March 1 in Connecticut to commemorate the Peace Corps' 50th anniversary.

"We have hundreds of groups at home and abroad who are coming together to share the legacy of the Peace Corps and its five decades of service," said Molly Mattessich, of the National Peace Corps Association. "This event is not only to honor individual volunteers' personal achievements, but the contributions they have made collectively since 1961."

The house parties are part of a year-long celebration of the Peace Corps in honor of the anniversary of its creation by President John F. Kennedy in 1961.
