Police deserve praise for their valiant efforts

We residents have a hard time imagining the risks our police officers take every day. I want to say how grateful I am to Sgt. Ken Creutz of the Ledyard police, and his fellow police officers, for their highly professional handling in the recent pursuit of two suspects with lengthy criminal records in the early-morning hours. ("Two arrested after lengthy pursuit," March 15.)

As reported in The Day, the suspect was apprehended during what appeared to be an extremely well coordinated effort by Ledyard police, Ledyard dispatch, Groton police and the Connecticut State Police.

Most incidents that begin like this one never make the papers, but the driver in this case seemed to make one bad choice after another. Yet, Sgt. Creutz and fellow officers kept their cool and made all the right choices, notifying dispatch while in pursuit, maintaining communication and abandoning pursuit when directed.

The suspect and his partner were captured, no damage was done and no lives were lost. Hats off for the work you do every day. Great job!
