Griswold celebrates a class that came together

Griswold High School graduate Rendell Ames receives a hug from Damein Burch after the graduation ceremony at the high school Saturday.

Griswold – The ties between Griswold High School and the small town surrounding it were evident throughout this morning's graduation ceremony, as students and administrators alike thanked the entire town for educating and nurturing the 160 graduates.

Class Salutatorian Jennifer Moore said town and school cannot be separated, recalling how entire families and neighbors attended Homecoming parades, Friday night football and spring musicals.

"We are very lucky to live in a community that educates us and nurtures us," Moore said.

Principal Mark Frizzell said the Class of 2011 always will be special to him. Becoming emotional briefly, Frizzell recalled how the class rallied after the Dec. 7 tragic car accident that killed four underclassmen.

Seniors raised money for the families of the victims and then helped establish a memorial fund in their names.

"I am extremely proud of the Class of 2011," Frizzell said. "And you should be extremely proud."

The crowd in the packed gymnasium rose for a standing ovation.
