Sox Need To Step Up In St. Pete

This is a big weekend for the Red Sox.

After starting off the season 0-6 then 2-10, Boston has put together a pretty spectacular season until the last two weeks.

They've won three of their last ten. They were beaten in their last three series losing two of three to the Yankees at home, losing two of three at home to Texas then losing three of four up in Toronto. The starting pitching has gotten them behind early, the bats are stranding runners in critical moments, the back of the bullpen is walking in runners and above all there's now uncertainty with the ace of the rotation Josh Beckett and his health moving forward.

I'll say it again...this is a big weekend for the Red Sox. The Tampa Bay Rays are just six games behind in the loss column and the Wild Card race and while this normally would seem like a good cushion in the last month of the season, Boston can't allow to happen what has occured over the last 12 games in letting the Rays win this series or worse...sweep.

It's not panic mode yet but there is definite concern watching this team over the past few weeks. A perfect time turn it around is tonight in St. Pete.

     Pitching matchups:

     Friday: Lackey vs. Davis

    Saturday: Weiland vs. Hellickson

    Sunday: Lester vs. Shields

What do you expect from the Red Sox this weekend and do you think it's as big of a series with the Rays as I do?
