Norwich - A man accused of participating in the May shooting death of city resident Johnny Amy was arraigned in Norwich Superior Court Wednesday on charges of murder and attempted murder.

William A. Long, 34, of no certain address, is one of two men suspected of killing Amy, 25. The other, Daquan R. Holmes, 25, is still sought by police and will also face murder and attempted murder charges.

Bail commissioner Lois Dupointe outlined Long's criminal past, including drunk driving, failure to appear in court and drug convictions in both New York and Connecticut before Judge Hunchu Kwak ordered Long held on $1 million bond.

Long was arrested Monday in Westerly. He waived extradition and was arrested by Norwich police on Tuesday. His case will be transferred to New London Superior Court and Long will next appear in court Sept. 26.

Police said Johnny Amy was found lying in the street about 2:25 a.m. on May 21 and was taken to The William W. Backus Hospital and transferred to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Hartford, where he later died of a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers, who had responded to a disturbance at Franklin and Willow streets, headed to Oak Street and found Amy after hearing gunshots.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the location of Holmes or concerning this incident to call the Norwich Police Department at (860) 886-5561, or the anonymous tip line at (860) 886-5561, ext. 500.
