Previous offices held and other government service:
What are the major issues for your town? Currently, Old Saybrook has a high performing educational district that is fortunate to have a wonderful group of administrators, staff, parents and students. The Board of Education continually strives to improve upon our current strong foundation in order to ensure that each child reaches their full potential.
What makes you the best candidate for this office? My husband, Derrik, and I chose Old Saybrook as our home because of the strength of the community, which largely includes the strength of the educational system. As a member of this community, I recognize that it is every citizen's responsibility to do their part to ensure that the town remains a wonderful place to live. I was drawn to serving on the Board of Education because I have always had a passion for education, learning and children. My educational background has provided me the ability to give feedback and collaborate with administration and staff on various types of curicula as well as to analyze assessment data. I also have strong professional experience in budget creation, management and negotiation. I posess a sound understanding that each child learns in their own way and wish to continue my service on the Board of Education to ensure that each child in this community realizes their full potential.
What was the last book you read, and what did you think of it? I recently finished "The Girl Who Played With Fire", the second book of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" triology by Stieg Larsson. It was a very quick read. After I finished the first book in the triology, I immediately picked this book up and started reading it. Larsson has a great ability to keep the reader engaged through strong character development against a backdrop of a suspenseful plot. I enjoyed reading it.
