New London - Kerry Watters said she entered Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London on Thursday after her physician decided she needed to have her labor induced.
Watters, of Groton, labored through the night and into a day made special not only by the coming birth of her son but by the date itself: Nov. 11, 2011. That's 11-11-11 to the numerologists.
The labor continued through the morning. As noon approached, so did the delivery. "We looked at the clock, and it was 11:09," Kerry said, "and my sisters started yelling 'Push.' And out he popped."
Jay Kwon Watters was born precisely at 11:11 a.m., according to Michael O'Farrell, the hospital's director of public relations. The baby, Kerry's third child, weighed 7 pounds, 1 ounce. He joins her 13-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter in the family.
The William W. Backus Hospital's birthing center reported one birth on Friday; The Westerly Hospital had none as of 5 p.m. L&M had five births, including Jay Kwon, as of 5 p.m. Friday, with one more anticipated before midnight.
