Police: Local stores found to be selling tobacco to minors

Waterford — Police charged three men Monday with illegal sale of tobacco to a minor as part of a check of tobacco retailers performed alongside officials from the Department of Consumer Protection.
Three stores were cited for selling tobacco products to minors: Zap N Go in the Crystal Mall, Sam’s Food Stores on Boston Post Road and Bestway gas station on Boston Post Road.
Police charged Benjamin Hapgood, 21, of 202 Boswell Ave., Norwich; Pallava Gutta, of 96 Green St., New London; and Chirag Patel, of 6 Boston Post Road.
